Subject: Hong Kong Visit

Hi everybody,

Thanks for taking the time to come and had lunch with me on the 25th (thanks for lunch by the way). It was so nice to see all of you again especially those that I have not seen for 30 years! Attached is the picture that we took together. By copy of this e-mail to "Ah So", you should be able to find this picture at the website eventually as well.

Special thanks to Hi Mun for organizing this lunch gathering and the numerous e-mail/phone follow-up and also to "Ah Lung" for arranging the meeting venue.

I wish I had more time to spend with each one of you that afternoon to update each other since we last met; two hours is obviously not enough! We didn't even have a chance to extend our conversation beyond ourselves to our families, I don't even know your spouse's name or how many children in your family, except for "Ah Lung" who brought his family along. Just out of curiosity, do any one know if any of our old boys is a grandfather? I'll try to do that in my next visit and hopefully we can see each other more than once.

I do think every one looks well and hope we can see each other again soon. If any one of you is visiting Vancouver or even just stopping over (Vancouver) en-route to other cities in Canada or USA, please let me know by e-mail, fax or phone and I will make arrangements to suit your itinerary.

Sincerely,
Anthony Lam

I ran into Alexander Lee (L6A) at lunch. Alex is better known as Ah-Dai (as versus Marcus Leung Chiu Hung as Ah-Sai... ;-) ). He'll be visiting HK next week.

Henry: if your time allows for a gathering with Alex, please arrange it directly with him. Alex said he's in touch with John Tang.

Anthony: in deed, Ho Bing Chung is in the southland and Alex has the contact info.

A former classmate of '71 sent me the following re: Bro Thomas. Thought it might be of interest to you too.

regards,
-jonas.

Gentlemen,

Paul Pang passed to me an article from a Chinese Newspaper about Brother Thomas. I believe you would be interested to see it.

News Clip

As some of you are living overseas, I wold give you some background about the story. Mrs Fanny Law, the AO in charge of Education wrote a letter to 22 top secondary schools in HK and expressed concern about their teaching methods, too traditional and conservative.

That led to strong opposition from these schools and she subsequently apologised. Of course both SJC and La Salle were included in these top 22 schools.

Personally I believe the 23rd school not included must be more annoying than the first 22. Have fun!

Our special guest of honor is Mr. Tang, the graceful senior gentleman sitting down with his grandson on the lap. He is also a Josephian and a classmate of the late Mr. Vincent Hoo. His son Stephen gratuated in the class of '70. He has other Josephian sons and grandsons. Wow! three generations of Josephians... Doesn't he look familiar? Yes, he used to work at SJC maintaining the stuff that we broke. He keeps every year of G&W which Br. Thomas sent him. We all enjoy the stories he told us and very impressed with his great sense of humor and awesome memory...

Dear Folks,

Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy 2001!

Jonas Leung set up an online forum to talk about SJC stuff. You can e-mail him to get an account. I received holiday greetings from Stephen Hau , Ignatius Chan , Johnny Lau and Jonas Leung with pictures and updated family information. Just follow the link. BTW, the second message from Stephen Hau wasn't from him at all. It originated from someone's PC in Thailand and contained the navidad.exe worm as attachment. I later also got a message from Fred Au-Yeung with the same worm. Tony Lam's PC was infected by it, since he inadvertently ran the file. If you are infected, do not panic. Your hard disk is still in fine shape. The worm just changed some stuff in your registry. The site www.symantec.com has info on what the worm does and instructions on how to get rid of it.

Hi C-hing's,

I visited your class '70 web site. Good Job, guys!

I am Leung, Jonas Suet-fai '71. You probably do not know me since I am a year after yours at SJC. If you don't mind, will you please send me the contact e-addr'es of Yau Ki Ching, Charles Yam, Leung Chiu Hung, Stephen Tang Chuk Tung, and Derek Liu Kam Chuen? Or forward my contact e-addr and request to those who might have their addresses.

We, the local SJC alumni, will be having a mini gathering in Nov 19, 2000 with Josephians from '65, '69 & '71 year of grad (F5) in Los Angeles. There are 10 of us who can make the gathering for a total of 30 people (with family). I look forward to that.

I have a list of Josephians '69 in the Bay area too (the year before yours).

Peter Cheung Chak Yau is an hon. judge now in HK and so I understand from a fellow classmate of '71. I haven't seen him since the SJC days.

Ran into Herbet Lee Ying Chiu in HK when I was there in the '95 first Asia internet expo. I understand our teacher Leslie "teddy-boy" Wong is working for Herbert's uncle... I'll have to find Herbert's biz card and send it to you guys for verification.

Most of you look great from the various albums I have seen. Stephen Tang Chuk Tung, AuYeung Fung, Leung Chiu Hung, Ha Yuen Chi, Kong Tak King, John Liu, Dick Yue...and of course Henry Lo when I last seen him in LA.

YAN, Paul Tak Him (U6B '72), a chiropractor, brother of the Physic teacher, Joseph Yan (retired), are both in LA vicinity.

Samuel So is in the San Francisco area. He is father of triplets and is a reputable physician (cardiac?).

Hi Mun,

You may or may not remember me, but I certainly remember you. I am trying to locate my classmate, your brother, Philip, Hay Lap '71. I want to construct a directory of contact list for our class. Last time I met with him and other SJC physicians classmates (I am not a doc) was in '95. Please send me his email or forward mine to him if he access the internet. Otherwise, just say hi.

Thanks and regards,

Ignatius Chan was visiting Hong Kong and a few of us had dinner with him on October 15. Present were Leo Tam Chung Ki, Liu Bing Fai, John Lo Sing, John Lun Wing Leung, Yip Pak Tao, Stephen Hau Chi Hung, Henry Lo Kai Li and myself.

Most I have met earlier this year. However, Ignatius Chan and Henry Lo - I haven't met for like 30 years. Remarkably, both haven't changed much in looks since SJC graduation. But then, you can also say the same for everybody at the table (unlike So Wai Hung !).

We had a great time and a long dinner. By the way, the hot topic at the table was China and doing business there, courtesy of the many war stories from Stephen Hau, Leo Tam, and John Lun. So much fun !!

These occasions are great opportunities to get together, even for us in Hong Kong. Just voice out if you are passing by.

Henry Chan (Hi Mun)

I just had dinner and coffee with a few SJC old boys in Toronto: Yau Ki Ching, Pau Kwok Keung and Lo Pak Lun. We were wondering who else is in Toronto. Just like me, Pau Kwok Keung's appearance changed a lot. He was a realtor here in Toronto but is now self employed. Lo Pak Lun works in a government lab (Ministry of Health) and Yau Ki Ching is in accounting. Pau Kwok Keung's oldest son is a second year computer engineering student at Queens University. Their e-mail addresses are below. Be warn that Yau Ki Ching told me that he is slow in checking and replying his e-mail.

Friends from St. Joseph's:

I have uploaded the reunion pictures, taken by me and Steve Lee, to the Ofoto website. Click the link below to view them. Even though the pictures seen are of a lower resolution (in order to save download time), the final prints are of the full resolutions.

This is a great website, since you can share pictures easily with friends. They make money when you order prints (or frames) from them. I have received their prints, and the quality is fantastic. If you sign up, you get 50 free 4x6 prints free; you only pay postage. You can order larger sizes, too. I highly recommend Ofoto!

If you want to get the files and print the pictures yourself, go to Joseph So's web-page and download the (big) files.

Have fun,

Hello Josephians,

Greeting from John Lun Wing-Leung, or better know as Ah Lun in the Josephian days.

I am aware of the Josephian web-site set up by Ah So some time ago. But somehow I have difficulty accessing it until recently. So I decided to write a few words now and keep all of you informed of what have happened to me during the last 30 years since I left SJC in 1971.

- I received my BS in U of Minnesota in 1975 and MS in Stanford in 76, both in Chemical Eng. Then I switched gear and earned my MBA in UC Berkeley in 78. It is a pity that I was not able to catch up with some of you during my stay in the Bay area during that time.

- I returned to work in HK in 79. Following 1 year in Citibank, I joined Exxon (now known as ExxonMobil) and remained as a loyal employee of this company since then. My current job involves heavy traveling in China.

- For some of you who follow the HK music scene, pls do not mistaken that I am the "Lun Wing Leung" who is a mediocre singer and fairly successful song producer for Anita Mui. It just happens that both of us carry the same name.

- I got married in 81 and have 2 sons now, 14 and 17 years old. Both of them follow my footsteps and are studying in SJC which I am very proud of. (A loyal Josephian, right?) For those of you who may still be interested in SJC, it hasn't changed much since you all left in early 70s. The same desk, the same basketball/soccer field and the same smell from the toilet next to the basketball court under old hall. Lemon head, MT Leung and Brother Thomas are still around! I am happy to provide you with more info about SJC if any one is interested.

- Besides spending time with my family, my favorite hobbies include collection of old banknotes and betting on horse racing (like Ah Lung)

- I am still maintaining contact with some overseas Josephians like Jo Lai, Yau Ki Ching, Anthony Lam, Bobby Ho, Charles Yam and Fred Au Yeung. In Hong Kong, I met with Lo Kai Li and Stephen Hau regularly, I am thrilled to hear from Dick Yue, Ignatius Chan and a few others whom I have lost touch for 30 years. During my work assignment in Houston in 1988, I bumped into Jo Lai in China town during shopping. What a small world!

- My current home is minutes away from SJC. It is in a terrace right above the few small stores in Kennedy Road. My e-mail address is jlun@netvigator.com and home phone 25252417. Happy to reestablish contact with all of you.

Best Regards, Lun.

I have finally finished scanning the 1972 U6A and U6C class photos. There were a lot of mistakes in the Year Book. Some of the names listed do not match the photos. I did my best to match the names to the photos but I might have made mistakes also. I would be grateful if you and any classmate could check the photos and notify me of any mistake. Unfortunately, for Tsang Shiu Wah, the photo in the year book is actually Yung Wing Ko's. (Yung Wing Ko appears twice in the year book.) If Tsang Shiu Wah can send me his 'old' photo, then it will complete the set. All the photos are now at

I was very excited last night because I found the 1972 SJC Green & White magazine. I just scanned all the photos for U6B class and put it up on my web site. You can download them from here or here .

It took me a while to do just the U6B class. There were a number of mistakes in the G&W magazine regarding names. I think I have now got them all corrected except for "Thomas Raptis??" which I am sure is wrong but I just can't remember the name of the person. If you can or anyone can identify this person, please let me know the correct name.

I am rather tied up for the next two weeks. As soon as I have time, I'll do the rest for U6A and U6C. My apology to these classmates for putting up with the delay.

Happy 2000 to all SJC classmates. Glad to see that the world was wrong in predicting its own demise with the Y2K problem, though there is a major, major storm coming as prophesied in the bible.

Enclosed please find a picture of me and my wife, Lillian. I encourage all of you to submit your pictures to Joseph So as well, so we can all attach faces to the familiar names.

Joseph, thank you for all your work in creating and updating the website. Since you have put my name up on the website, I have reconnected with a number of good ol' friends and really enjoyed hearing what they have been up to.

Peace and joy to everyone in 2000.

My major responsibility is the development of structural materials for commercial and military aerospace applications, some of which have shown up on the wings, fuselage and empennage of the Boeing 757, 767, 777 and some Airbus aircraft. I like what I'm doing.

My wife Theresa, whom I met and committed to in Florida, lived in Macao in her early childhood. She worked for Westinghouse as a computer scientist for 3 years, and subsequently opened a restaurant which she successfully operated for 9 years. We sold our restaurant in 1997, and being fearless, she is now back to college to pursue an MBA and a MoIS (MS in the Management of Information Sciences). She's very excited about her new page which starts in 2001. In fact, as part of her degree program, she is looking for a 4-month internship in an IT-related role from May through August, 2000. Now that both our kids are in college, she is geographically flexible, including HK. If any one of you have any leads please send me a note.

Stephen is a 21-year-old big boy. From playing guard in his high school football team, he is 5'11", 195 lb, and not fat. He is a senior at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore with the initial intent of going to medical school. Last year we had a series discussions on what he wants to be when he grows up. He wasn't sure if he wants to be a physician for the rest of his life anymore, even though his credentials should allow him to pick any medical school. However, he is very much intrigued by the part-time biological research work he has been doing for one of his professors. The decision: after his graduation in May 2000, he will spend one year working in biological research and, at the same time, volunteer at a hospital. The experience should help him find out and pursue what he wants to do. He's an exceptionally dedicated and conscientious scholar, and much more noble than his dad. I suspect he will be in the academia forever - he will probably do a PhD in a top university, then a few years of post-doctoral research, followed by a professorship. Will let you know.

Jennifer is a good looking 19-year-old lady, and has just started college in the fall of 1999 at Penn State. She does not know what she wants to do yet, and that's OK.

Best Wishes to you and your family.

Merry Christmas and have a Happy Year 2000!

Joe Lai contacted Sun Kar Tai while he was in Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago. Apparently, Sun Kar Tai is (still) working for Saitek (they make Kasparov chess). I have added an entry to Sun Kar Tai in the e-mail address table. BTW, somebody told me that the SUN diagnostic equipment used in many autoshops was designed by Sun Kar Tai. Wow!

A bit of recent news. Since my last email to you (below), I became, earlier this September, the associate dean of engineering at MIT, in effect the number 2 person overseeing the engineering school. It is a great opportunity and honor (no Asian I believe has ever risen to this level in the history of MIT) but also a tremendous challenge. So far I've also tried to maintain some meaningful level of my research and teaching but it appears quite difficult at times.

Sincerely,
Dick

Dear All,

I came across the following and thought that you might enjoy it too. Cheers and have a nice day! Best Regards, Stephen Hau

The "Salary Theorem" states that "Engineers and scientists can never earn as much as business executives and sales people." This theorem can now be supported by a mathematical equation based on the following two postulates:
1. Knowledge is Power.
2. Time is Money.
As every engineer knows: "Power = Work / Time". Since "Knowledge=Power" and "Time=Money", then "Knowledge=Work/Money". Solving for Money, we get: "Money=Work/Knowledge". Thus, as Knowledge approaches zero, Money approaches infinity, regardless of the amount of work done.

Conclusion: The less you know, the more you make.

Just had dinner with Tony Lam, Edmund (Har Yuen Chi) and Lillian Hsiah, Joseph Chiang, Bobby Ho and Kong Tak King here in Vancouver. The 30 year reunion question came up and one idea is to pick one of the three places: (i) Vancouver and area (Whistler, Victoria, etc.) (ii) San Francisco and area (Lake Tahoo, Reno, etc.) (iii) Los Angeles and area (Disney, Los Vegas, etc.). This will be in the summer time (July/August). Tony also talked to David Ching earlier and they were thinking about a 3 days cruise (Vancouver to L.A.) or Club Med. There was also some talk about chartering a bus to Yellowstone Park from Vancouver and pass by Calgary afterwards. If you are interested or have an idea, contact Tony Lam Chiu Ho.

ANTHONY LAM PHONED ME THIS MORNING AND TOLD ME ABOUT THIS WEB SITE. HOLY COW IT BLOWS MY MIND---THIS IS GOOD STUFF. GOING THRU THE WEB SITE DO BRING BACK SOME OLD MEMORIES, MAINLY NAMES OF FELLOW CLASSMATES THAT I'VE SEEN IN 30 YEARS. ALTHOUGH I MUST CONFESS THAT I COULD NOT LINK UP SOME NAMES TO THEIR FACES---ONSET OF ALZHEIMER, GOING FAST. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T REMEMBER WHO I AM, I AM THE FAT MORON THAT CHARGED UP AND DOWN THE BASKETBALL COURT LIKE A TANK IN INTER-CLASSS GAMES. I HAVE BEEN IN VANCOUVER SINCE 1977, AFTER SPENDING SEVERAL YEARS IN CALIFORNIA. MARRIED (WHAT A MORON MY WIFE IS) AND TWO DAUGHTERS AGE 17 & 15. I HAVE BEEN A STOCKBROKER (A FANCY NAME FOR FU..... SALESMAN) FOR THE LAST 18 YEARS. MY WEBSITE IS vmui@globalsec.com.

I SENT YOU AN E-MAIL ABOUT 10 MINUTES AGO. I JUST REALIZED THAT I DID NOT I.D. MYSELF (WHAT ELSE IS NEW). ANYWAYS THE E-MAIL IS FROM VINCE (YUEN-KEUNG) MUI OF VANCOUVER.

Dear Wai Hung:

What a pleasant surprise to hear from an old SJC'er after all these years. I must admit I have lost touch with most everyone through the years. Thank you also for all the effort setting up the website, it is quite wonderful to be able to read up on so many of our classmates.

You may not remember but I left SJC after lower six in 1991 to go to MIT. To make a long story short, with the exception of 2 years in La Jolla, California and several sabbatical leaves (La Jolla, CA; Stanford, CA; Taipei, Taiwan), I have been affiliated with MIT ever since: all my degrees and now I am in my 17th year as a professor at MIT.

My wife, Eva, and I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary this May. We have four children, 2 boys and 2 girls: Kevin Paul (9), Teresa Grace (7), Emily Joyce (5) and Brian John (3). Lately, we have also added a puppy "Bubbles" (8 months). My homepage (URL: http://mit.edu/yue/www/homepage.html) has some pictures but is unfortunately rather dated.

The single most important event in my life after SJC was my becoming a (born again) Christian in my sophomore year at MIT. Since then, very few aspects of my life have not been radically changed.

I am interested to know if there are other SJC'ers in the US Northeast.

Thanks again!

Dear SJC Brothers,

I was so thrilled to learn of this WEB site. If you guys do not remember me, here is a short bio-data.

Liu Kam Chuen, Derek --- I used to hang out a lot with Ah So, John "Sze Fu" Liu, Poon Wing and Raymond Tsang. We made Campbell chicken soup in cornicle flasks and raid cigerattes off Benz Head. Now I am very humbly serving the Lord in various ministeries in Hong Kong as well as holding a secular job of making cement in Hong Kong and South China.

My wife, Shindey, is a happy homemaker but also serves in various Christian ministries. I have three children, Shaun is 18 and studies in a bible college but aspires to be a fashion designer. My twin daughters, Charmaine and Charlene are 15, are in high school and praise the Lord are good wholesome teenagers.

Many miracles happened in our lives and we are always prepared to give the reasons of our hope and faith in Christs. I will be individually calling you guys up so be prepared.

In Christ

Anthony Lam and family just came for a visit and we spent a nice afternoon together. My 5 year old Iyla already said she missed Nathan, Tony's 11 year old boy :-) . The Lam family is doing an one week drive around the Canadian Rockies. We were talking about a 30 year reunion, which would be next year: Y2K. He and I will make up a questionaire to see if there is enough interest. I think location would be quite a problem.

Dear Joseph:

Merry Christmas to you.

For some strange reason, I had an urge to write a poem for Christmas. It is strange because I am not a writer (I am an accountant, remember?) and my English is terrible. Fortunately, my wife came to the rescue and worked double overtime to help finish the piece. So here it is, after many sleepless nights, the work is finally done. (I do not know if it is truly done, or we are just running out of energy to do anymore for now.)

Please enjoy our special Christmas present, and feel free to post it on the website (unless you think it needs more work, of course), as long as the following message goes with it.

A Poem by Edmund and Lillian Hsiah

Hello JS and JL,

I met Derek in HK and he is doing extremely well ! I leave it to him to tell you in his own words.

His e-mail address is: derek@gich.com.hk

I sent him an e-mail this morning to inform him the addresses of you both but I got two messages back, one saying the message I sent to Derek had been delivered without incident but the other said his address carries a "fatal error". I don't know which to trust. Anyway the bottom line is until I hear back from him, I am not sure if his address is correct.

You can still reach him at his home address which is 21st floor, Block 29, Baguio Villa, 550 Victoria Road, Hong Kong. This address, I was told, is good till around Feb. next year.

Finally I wish you both and your families All the Best for this Christmas and for the whole of year 1999 !

Hi Joseph:

Thanks to you and John Lo for all your work re the SJC web site. It is great. I finally got out of the dinosaur age and got connected to the "net".

A brief note about myself: For those who have forgotten about me, I am Har Yuen Chi, the 100 meter sprinter who ran on the SJC official relay team in 1969-72? (it was too long ago).

I live in Surrey, about 45 km. from Vancouver, BC Canada. My wife's name is Lillian. Her ethnic background is Doukhobor (Russian), although she was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada. She speaks English and a little bit of Russian, but not Chinese, except in a dim-sum restaurant, where she can order fluently in Chinese.

I am a Certified General Accountant, but have spent quite a bit of my career life as a management consultant. I used to travel extensively to Victoria, Toronto and U.S. and had a number of bank and government executives as my clients. Now I have a small public practice - some of my clients actually live in Hong Kong. I used to have an office in downtown Surrey (if you can call it downtown), but I have moved the practice home. It gives me a lot of freedom. The commuting time is short, and no traffic jams!

Like Liu Kam Chuen, I have also become a born-again Christian. Although I studied the Bible in SJC, I never quite understood much of it (and I even went to church during that time). Actually, religion does not have much to do with anything insofar as God is concerned, as I have found out. God apparently wants to tell me (and everyone else) who we are, and why the world is so messed up, and what is the answer to all of this mess. If we die tomorrow, what would happen to us? If you want to know more about what I am talking about, please write to me. I'd love to share the word of God with you.

Merry Christmas to all of you, and remember Christ on His birthday (well, sort of - I don't believe that Christ was born on December 25).

Hi Joseph:

Just want to let you know that I have a new email address.

I left Trimble Navigation in July 1998, and started a small consulting firm with a couple of colleagues. We specialize in designing wireless IC's. So far, we have been very busy, working on some fairly exciting projects. We will be vacationing in Singapore and Hong Kong in late December. Looking forward to seeing some of you again!

Best regards,

Raymond Tsang Shui Wah sent me a copy of a video (No. 418) on Mr. and Mrs. Derek Liu Kam Chuen from Showers of Blessing Evangelistic Ministry (3414 Midland Ave., Suite 11, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada M1V 4V5, (416) 321-9288). Those who met Derek in recent years must know that he is now a born again Christian. (I think the last time I saw him was during the summer of 1990 in Hong Kong). Ask Raymond or call the Ministry if you want to get a copy of the video. On another note, I have also added John Lun's e-mail below.

We (the whole family) will be leaving to Toronto for vacation on July 28. We will take a 5 days bus tour on Jul 31 to New York, Boston and Wahsington D.C. and back to Toronto on Aug 4. We will then head down to Florida on Aug 7 and join Anthony Lam Chiu Ho on a 7 days East Carribean Cruise. I called Lo Pak Lun in Toronto but he is currently in H.K. but will be back next week. I will see how tight is my schedule and see whether I can get hold of some of the old classmates while I am in Toronto. May be able to send you some photos when I get back.

Raymond Tsang suggested that perhaps we could have some pictures on this site, since it may be difficult to associate a name with a face after all these years. Dear classmates,

It is so exciting and joyful to hear again from you all, 26 years since we last gathered together. I studied Electronics Engineering in the Chinese University of HK when I left SJC in 1972. Then I had worked with HK Telecom for 19 years and in 1996 joined Hutchison Telecom. I am now managing a team of staff for Operations and Maintenance of the Fixed Network, which is a new born baby from 1997. I am married and have a daughter of 12. My wife Jennifer spends half of her time as tutor in a youth centre and the rest as housewife.

I remember I met Stephen Hau quite a long while ago but could not contact him at Hellar Factoring later. It is really nice to hear from him again, as well as from so many others, and Chan Hi Mun, who sat next to me during primary 5 and who was the first in the class since then. The last time I met Hi Mun was a year ago when we sat next to each other in a restaurant and met !

Please keep in touch!

Please call me PT

Having read from the web page news of many classmates, I would like to add a brief description of myself:

I am married to Tina Lo, a paediatrician by profession, having two daughters, Aegean of 12, and Ailsa of 10. After graduated from the Department of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong. I have been working as an architect ever since. I have been living in Sydney Australia during the year 85 to 87. And have started my own Architect Firm in Hong Kong from 1993, designing and building projects of residential, office, hotel, shopping centres, institutional buildings and interior design as well. I am really glad to have the effort of Joseph So to establish this site for a chance to see what our fellows classmates been doing and it does bring back a lot of sweet memmories. In Hong Kong I meet occasionally with Yip Pak Tao, John Lo and Ho Tai Hing.

(Now I remembered why I did not send this message. Somehow I keep getting an error message back that this message cannot be delivered to Joseph So's e-mail address)

I meant to write this a long time ago ever since Johnny Lau alerted me to this web site last year. Pretty soon one distraction led to another and next thing I know it is almost May in 1998! This is Ignatius Chan otherwise known as Chan yuen-tak and many of you will remember my nickname. I came to the US in September of 1972 , Johnny met my plane in San Francisco. A few hours later Fred Au-Yeung met me at the Houston airport. Fred and I were roommates for a few years together with Lui Ming Leung. After getting a BS and a MS in Physics from U. of Houston, I went on to U. of Virginia and received a doctorate in Materials Science in 1980. Prior to coming to California, I did a post-doc for two years at Arizona State University. I have been working for Chevron Research and Technology Company since 1982. My current responsibility is their Materials Characterization Group. For those in Asia, Chevron is 50% owner of Caltex.

Marie and I have been married for 11 years. We have two daughters, Alicia (5) and Kaelin (3), and Snoopy, our dog. Our home is in Novato, about 20 miles north of the Golden Gate bridge. Just outside the California wine country region. We love the life in California and couldn't imagine moving anywhere else. Johnny and I get together about once a year or whenever some old friends from HK visits. Johnny has been much more diligent than I in keeping in touch with old friends. There are a few St. Joseph alumni in the Bay Area and Johnny had hosted several get-togethers in the past. I usually visit HK once every 2 to 3 years as my Mom and my brother's family still currently reside. I would love to get together with old pals the next time we go back to HK. Of course, let us know if anyone happens to breeze by our way.

Recently, I was very busy due to the financial turmoil and a lot of people in Hong Kong trying to get back their stocks in a hurry. I lost the SJC web page address but had no difficulty locating it via www.ualberta.ca, so as long as So Wai Hung remains at U Alberta, this page should be very easy to get to. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of responses and people posting, and impressed by all the important roles they play in various places. We really should make use of this site to get acquainted again. Looks like a gathering in Year 2000 is a piece of cake: if not physically in Hong Kong, certainly in cyberspace!

Long time no see. This is Tsang Kwan Lung and known as Ah Lung during the SJC days. Very glad to see the formation of this SJC home page which provides an excellent channel for communicating among old classmates who lost touch over 20 years, and I must thank those who made it happened. I returned to Hong Kong in 1975 after graduated from the U.S. I still remembered that I stayed in Johnny's house in Oakland the first day I arrived in the States back in 1972 and I must thank Johnny for that .I worked in Sonca, subsidiary of Union Carbide, for 13 years in various capacities in purchasing, production and marketing. In 1988, I left Sonca and joined a local public company, Gold Peak, which involves in batteries, electrical accessories (Clipsal), and electronic products. In 1991, I was posted to Singapore to take care of GP Batteries which was listed in the Singapore Stock Exchange. In addition, I am also responsible for the sales and marketing in Asean. GP is now the top 10 battery manufacturer in the world and the largest in Asia outside of Japan. My wife Juling and daughter Yin Yee (14) are still in Hong Kong. I have been commuting between Singapore and Hong Kong for the past 8 years. Besides work, I like the horse racing in Hong Kong and the facilities ( tennis and golf ) in Singapore. For those who are passing by this region and like to experience the warm climate and breeze under the coconut tree of NAN YANG, please let me know.

Let's keep in touch.

It was a pleasant surprise to receive your circular which was sent to my ex-company in Bangkok and re-routed back to me. I guess that was my last known address on the SJC roster.

Anyway, I have been back to HK since the beginning of 1994 and am now engaged in a healthcare investment business together with Michael Choy, our classmate from Form 5A. I do meet up with our classmate in HK regularly, namely Lo Kai Li, Poon Wing, Wong Nai Ming and had dinner with Tsang Kwan Loong in Singapore two weeks ago. I will have lunch with Liu Ping Fai, Wong Nai and Lam Kit Yan next week and will pass on your e-mail info to them if they have not already got it.

Can my younger son ( aged 11 ) double date your 2 daughters in 20 yrs' time?!

Just a joke lah. I have been shuttling between Hong Kong and Singapore for the last 2 years. My family, wife and 2 boys, is in Singapore but I am still keeping my legal practice in Hong Kong until 8th February 1998 when it is changed to Khattar Wong & Partners, one of the leading firms in Singapore of which I am a partner.

This year, I am aiming to pick up practice in Singapore and set up networking in Malaysia at the same time. I will also retain my Hong Kong link in order to offer regional service to clients.

Dear old friends from St Joseph's,

Very glad to hear from you. Hope the e-mails and Web pages will rekindle the old friendships and bring new acquaintances as well.

I live and work in Toronto these days. There must be many other old Josephians in town. However, I only keep in touch with a couple whom I have always maintained contact with. Let's do a Global List to find out more on who's where and so on.

Last summer, I went to Vancouver for a visit. I met up with Anthony Lam and Vincent Mui, and also 12 to 13 of the others who graduated a year before us - before of their Vancouver connections. So we had a dinner together for a total of 16 of us. Anthony can probably name which and everyone that have turned up for that dinner. That were others that I wished have met for that dinner but the short notice could not round up more old Josephians! I am sure there is always next time.

I am now working for Rhone Poulenc Chemicals Inc, a French-owned chemical company. I am a chemical engineering by training. Our plant is located in Mississauga, west of Toronto. We manufacture surfactants, silicones and polymers for the personal and health care industry, paper coatings and mining.

Let's keep in touch and chat!

I got this webpage news from Ignatius Chan. I am going to introduce myself to the old classmates if they happen not remembering me. My name is Frederick Au-Yeung, everybody called me Au-Yeung Fung or Ah Fung in the old days. I lived in Houston for 5 1/2 years before settled down in Calgary for the last 20 years. I am married for 20 years with 2 children, my daughter will be 16 in March,1998 and my son is 7. I am a registered professional engineer in Alberta and I am an associate with a consulting firm in Calgary especializing in evaluating oil and gas. I travel occasionally to China and other countries on business. I was in H.K. last October after a trip to China and met with Lo Kai, Stephen Hau and Roger Fung. My wife is an accountant working for Husky Oil owned by Li Ka Shing.

I am scheduled to go to China again on Feb 21, 1998. I most probably will stop at H.K. for a couple of days before coming back to Canada. If any of you would like to meet or chat in H.K., please let me know before I leave. Hope to hear from all of you.

It's nice to hear from the two of you and the fact that our class of 70 finally have our very own Web Page. The two of you should be commended for your hard effort and the time and energy to make this happen. I hope all of us will frequently exchange mail via this Web Page and make this your number one favorite site!

I'm Anthony Chiu-Ho Lam and I have lived in Canada since 1971 (Lower 6B). I am married, her name is Allena and we have one son, Nathan who is ten years old.

Currently, I am living in Vancouver. I am an accountant by profession and have my own accounting practice. For those of you interested in coming to Vancouver, we have a local SJC Old Boys Association in Vancouver and other than myself, Joseph Chiang, Edmund Hsiah (Har Yuen Chi) and Vincent Mui are all actively involved in the local chapter. In addition, from the class of 70 that also live in Vancouver include Fred Kong and Bobby Ho. If you need their phone number, please send me a note or e-mail.

If any of you visit Vancouver, please let me know ahead of time and I will do my best to be your local tour guide. Hope to hear from any one of the class of 70!

Thanks a lot for putting up a web-site for SJC alumni. This is a great idea. Maybe we could also talk to Josephians (sp?) from other graduating classes so that we can get an international St Joseph web-site up.

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone. I'm Johnny Lau (aka Chung Lau), living in the US, from the 1970-71 Lower 6B class. Somehow 27 years have gone by since the last time we're all together in our beloved school. I'm an electrical engineer by training, and I work at Trimble Navigation in Sunnyvale, California. My wife is Dolly, and we have 3 boys: Jeffrey (13), Brian (11) and Derek (7). We also have a dog and a cockatiel bird. My wife is a lot busier than I am.

Wong Nai Ming passed the SJC webisite address to me. I am glad to be able to get in touch with our old classmates again after almost 25 years.

If you still remember, I am better known as Lammie, or Lam Kit Yan. I spent the last 13 years in Sydney Australia and in Ausgust 1997, we moved back to Hong Kong. My family only consists of myself, my wife Martha and two tiny birds we brought from Australia.

The years we spent in Australia have been rewarding and we thoroughly enjoyed the lifestyle, the climate, the space, the sincerity of our friends in Australia. We moved back to Hong Kong because we have found life in Australia has become a bit boring and we are looking for mew challenges and new experiences in life. Seeing Hong Kong is undergoing historical changes, we want to be in Hong Kong to feel the changes. We'll probably stay for 10 years and then we'll head back to Sydney for our semi-retirement.

Martha is teaching in the Language Department at the H K University of Science and Technology, thus we are now living on campus in Sai Kung. I have just started my speicialist practice as Ophthalmologist in Kowloon. Ophthalmologist means a doctor who speicialises in treating eye diseases. If I can be of any help to our classmates in this area, don't hesitate to contact me.

An electronic greeting card from Joseph Lai Cho Sam reminded me that Chinese New Year is very early this year. Have a healthy and prosperous Year of the Tiger!

I am adding hyperlinks to short descriptions of people who do not have their own home page (at the suggestion of John Lo). Please send me your short description, guys.

Got your website address from John Lo. Good job. Lo Sing misspelled my name - it's Chan Hi-Mun not Mum. And I am a father of two now, so don't call me "Wonder Boy" or that kind of stuff.

Anyway, pls put me on your Webpage. Have been in HongKong for eleven (!) years since coming back from Australia in late 1986.

I think we can use your Website to re-establish long loss contacts. One thing we talked about in November is to have a reunion in Year 2000 in Hong Kong (since we don't have any in 1997!). If that seems agreeable, let's start pushing for it.

Just want to say Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year to everybody. My elder daugther is four today. Big day for her. We have 2 daugthers. The other one is 10 months. You can see some of the not so exciting things I do in my home page (see below).

Joe Lai the Scholar from Australia met with Chan Hi Mun the Wonder Boy, Tam Chung Ki the Architect, Yip Pak Tao the Telecom Expert and Lo Sing the Computer Man in Hong Kong in November 1997. We caught up with each other and the fashion of having Christian names: Chan - Henry, Tang - Neo and Lo - John, except Yip. We are all very interested to know what happens to the rest of us so why not make use of this web page to exchange news.

-- Lo Sing (John)
