I had a great time visiting with the boys in HK, especially meeting wih Gary, Lawerence and ah Gau for the first time in many years. Many ideas of the coming reunion has been bought up during dinner. Roger, Lawerence and Albert will be the ones in HK co-ordinating with the overseas people for any functions associating with the reunion.
See pictures here.
Here are some pictures of Johnny Lau's trip to HK.

Dear classmates,
My family and I were in HK recently and had dinner with 10 old boys, thank you for coming out to see us. During the dinner, we continued with the discussion started by Ignatius (in March), I was asked to send out this summary and this is what I remembered from the discussion:
1. The reunion date is set to be either the second or third week of November 2010 as this will coincide with the annual SJC black & white dinner, this seems to be the consensus of all those present as it would allow our reunion dinner to be held at 7 Kennedy Road, it definitely will make the "40 year" reunion event more memorable. It was pointed out that November is usually a dry month and not too hot for those of us who have climatized with cooler North American climates. Please plan your vacation schedule around the second or third week of November 2010.
2. Those present on May 11 also agreed that the reunion should be held over a weekend i.e. a two or three days' event rather than just one dinner at the school. Some suggestions include a short 2 or 3 day cruise around H.K., excursions to neighbouring resort cities/towns in 廣 東 省 and one likely place suggested is 深 圳 (東 部) 華 僑 城 as this is a new tourist attraction (not all those present have visited this new resort). The final itinerary will be decided by the H.K. planning committee (committee members to be decided) with the input of all of us.
3. Since the old boys now reside in various parts of the world, those present agreed that we need coordinators for each region. Stephen Hau volunteered to be the person to research and come up with suggestions for suitable meeting venues in neighbouring 廣 東 省 but the H.K. region committee is still vacant, yours truly volunteered to be the North American coordinator and I mentioned at the dinner that I had an understanding from Harry So Tat Hoi previously that he doesn't mind to be the Australian coordinator (Ah So, please correct me if my understanding is incorrect). As there are quite a few old boys living in Singapore, it was suggested that perhaps one volunteer can be found from that region as well. The responsibility of the coordinator is to assist the H.K. planning committee (volunteers from the H.K. region urgently required) to contact and advise all old boys living in their respective regions of this upcoming reunion and to encourage them to attend this event.
4. All those present agreed that if and when the H.K. planning committe comes up with an itinerary, a non-refundable deposit must be obtained from each and every participating old boys; with solid committments, this will facilitate immensely the planning committee to work with any HK travel agency to get the best rates for all of us.
5. The ideal medium of communication (Facebook, e-mail, net-meeting etc.) for this event was discussed briefly but nothing more concrete than what Ignatius had reported previously in March. We need volunteers who are more conversant in computer technology to give guidance and/or to head up this segment.
If I have missed anything that was discussed on May 11, please help me to clarify, circulate to all e-mail recipients so we can keep everyone informed of this "40 year reunion" event.

林 超 豪

Joseph and Johnny:
I had lunch in Hong Kong with the SJC contingent on Dec. 30 ( photo attached). Among other things, we discussed the organization of the 2010 re-union for the 1970 class. Here's what we have decided so far:
1. The events will evolve around the date Nov. 19, 2010.
This is the 3rd Friday in November, which is the usual annual old boys
association dinner held at the school.
We could certainly have a tour of the school before the dinner.
November is the driest time of the year for HK.
The temperature will be pleasant for those of us that are not used to
the heat and humidity any more.
2. Outside of that dinner, we will organize activities for the class
of 1970 on that weekend.
Several possibilities have been suggested:
(a) charter a large boat for several so we can cruise around Hong Kong;
(b) Locate a large private gathering place where we can have a BBQ or dinner.
The idea is that we will have time to mingle and talk for extensive
period of time.
The HK yacht club has been suggested.
We'll let the local arrangement committee figure out the venue.
One of the events should be a karaoke activity since this idea received
a lot of support.
3. Establish a centralized communication process and the system to
with potential attendees.
We need to compile the contact information for all potential attendees.
We have nominated you two to be in charge of getting the system off
the ground.
We know you two are more than capable of setting up websites or social
networking systems to take on this task.
I imagine this is similar to organizing a technical conference where
we will make announcements and attendees will register for the events.
People can pay through paypal so the local arrangement committees can
make deposits to reserve gathering places or dinners.
To start with, you have just received separate sets of e-mail addresses
from Stephen Hau and John Lun in the last couple of days.
I think Joseph has another set in the old website that you set up.
If you can merge the sets and cross check for duplications,
we'll be off to a great start.
I suggest the next step after that would be to send out an announcement
using that set of contact information telling people to set aside the
weekend of Nov. 19, 2010.
We'll also ask them to check that list and contact whomever they know
that are not on that list to come forward and register on that website.
In other words, ask people to spread the word.
Below are some additional thoughts I come up with:
1. I suggest there should be a local arrangement committee consisted
of 3 to 4 people to work out the local details.
This committee should come into existence about a year before the event.
2. Come up with a time line for the organization process leading up
to the event ( I can make a first crack at this)
3. Once we establish the potential attendees' list,
we could solicit suggestions for activities or have people vote
on several possible selections.
Let me know if this sounds reasonable or if you have other suggestions.

Hello, everyone. For those of you who have not seen each other since 1972, what do you think is your chance of recognizing from just walking pass each other in the street? Well, that just happened to me this afternoon!
Remember Clement Ho 何穎輝 ? I was at Tzu Chi's Sydney office (台灣慈濟基金會) today for my usual Saturday volunteer work and walked pass someone in the hall. It was a face not seen there before. So I looked back and found the posture and face familiar. 何穎輝’s name came to mind straight away (kid you not, that's true). After seconds of hesitation, I walked up to him and asked if he was from HK. When he confirmed that, I then asked if he was surnamed Ho. That was also confirmed. You should have seen the surprise on his face. I quickly followed that with his Chinese name and introduced myself with SJC. It was unreal. We had a good talk. He came back to Sydney in 1982 and is now retired due to medical reason. Has a daughter of 21 and he was there today with his wife, his second visit there.
What an amazing encounter! He does not know our old boys web site address. I will email him with it after I send this and will ask him if he would like to list his contact details there for all of you. Hope all of you had a good Christmas and 2009 will be better for all.
I had lunch with some of the old boys in Central on Jan. 4 (Friday). Stephen Hau did the organizing. Unfortunately he was unable to attend as his mom unexpectedly checked into the hospital that morning. The people at the lunch were: Chan Hi Man, Yip Pak Tao, K K Pau, Y C Lee, Henry Ho (Tai Hing), Roger Fung, Raymond Tsang (shiu wah), Liu Chun (visiting from Australia), and I. Interestingly, half of them were not at the dinner at my last visit. Understandably, Jan. 4 was a busy time for most people. It was a work day for most of them and they were catching up from after a long holiday.
Anyway, we had a good time. Raymond was back to attend a wedding while Liu Chun was visiting relatives. One thing we decided was to organize a 40 year reunion in 2009. The date chosen is the first week in Nov. 2009. These guys did not beat about the bush. When the suggestion was made and everyone thought it was a good idea, they just whipped out the calendar and chose the date. We will try to hold the celebration dinner at SJC. Furthermore, we decided Steve Hau should be the HK contact and we need to publicize the date using Joseph's web site. I was to be the courier of the news to the folks in North America. I suggest Joseph and Tony would be the perfect contact for the North America side. Guys, how about that? Anyone seconding the suggestion?
Unfortunately I did not take any pictures at the lunch.

Attached are pictures from the 1974 road trip as promised. Sorry it took me a little while to get to it. For that I throw in a bonus picture of the handsome Johnny at 1971 in Berkeley after he gone fishing. (Johnny: Did you catch anything?)
Notice the price of gas in one of the pictures. The Chicago picture was taken from the top of the John Hancock Building around the 104th floor. We have come a long way in our fashion statements....evolution is indeed a long process.

Dear Josephians,
On behalf of the Students Union of St. Joseph's College, we are delighted to inform you that the 132nd Anniversary Green and White Day will be held on 4th February, 2007 (Sunday)!
The annual Green and White Day is an invaluable opportunity for visitors to experience our colourful school life. The theme of this year's Green and White Day is 'On Air'. In radio shows or television studios, 'On Air' means there is a show in progress. In the same way, our Green and White Day is a day when Josephians put on a huge performance to give visitors a glimpse of life in this wonderful campus. Furthermore, 'On Air' also conveys the sense of flying in the sky. It illustrates that Josephians all enjoy a high degree of freedom during their school life, and with it, they spread their wings and soar to high altitudes, achieving success and making their mark all over the world.
To celebrate this special occasion, we have composed a Theme Song 'On Air' and produced a Music Video, the creative idea and production work of which are all done by Josephians. An official website has also been hosted (http://gnwday.sjc.edu.hk). Click in to know more about our event and to download our theme song and mtv!
The Green and White Day has always been one of the most important events and the best opportunities to experience the life of a Josephian. In order to share with us this unique experience, you are cordially invited to come and visit us on the Green and White Day. We are looking forward to seeing you on 4th February!
Yours faithfully,
Jason Cheung

Dear all,
So far, only Norman Hok-ling Chan has confirmed to come. He has been very adventurous internationally as a medical doctor, professor and linguist (capable to speak some 8 languages/dialects including Arabic). He's the one sitting in the middle of the B/W photo in 1967(?) in some old restaurant in Sheung Wan. Can anyone identify this restaurant?
The other photo was on the return of Ignatius Chan in July 07. Ignatius was with Chevron and the energy business (?) for some 25 yrs and now lives in San Francisco. From here, I have just realized that I have missed out Lu Kai Li for the Gala Dinner Would anyone (Hau Chi-hung perhaps) pls let him know? I do not seem to have his email address. Thanks very much.
Thanks also to Peter Cheung who has kept so nicely some of these photos. I have some of these in stock but will need time for reorganization. I am hoping to have a few more If someone is interested in writing to complement the photos, we could talk about that too. Personally, I feel that the School Magazines are too regimental. They have not changed for 132 yrs! Before we retire, see if we could have some meaningful records of our past.
So please show your face!!

I think you will find it interesting. Among those present are Tony, David, Ignatius (who really looks Japanese), Louis, Henry Loo, Ken Wong (Ying Kuen), Sam Wong (Yiu Sum) and their families.
If you have trouble playing it, get the K-Lite codec kit. There is a player bundled with the package that is excellent. Just google K-Lite.

That was our first trip to Vancouver. Cheung Chak-Yau, Joseph Yick, Vincent Mui and Edmund were there at the dinner. Later we went to Tony's house and the kids had a good time, except Nathan who looked to be in shock :) . Jeffrey was only 4 years old then, and Brian 2. Derek just turned one. Our friend Alec and his family helped us a lot taking care of the kids. On-On (Irene) was also 4, and Lok-Lok (Andrew) not quite two. Hard to believe it was almost exactly 17 years ago.

Please post the attached photo taken at the dinner with other classmates during Stephen Sum's recent visit to HK.
Dear Wai Hung,
It must be 30 years since I last saw you in HKU.
Anyway after graduating from Dept of Architecture I had basically been working in HK for all these years, except between 1983 and 1987 when I migrated over to Australia and joined Joe Lai.
I am now with a local Architectural practice, Rocco Design Limited.
My email address is hh@roccodesign.com.hk, as we would be moving office soon, I would give my office address later.
Anyone in HK can contact me on mobile phone 852-90959212.
Some sad news: Chan Pak Cheong from A class had a stroke last February, and he is now half paralysed and at a nursing home. Some SJC classmates like Eddie Chan and Cheung Chak Yau, Roger Fung, K K Pau, Karl Lam and Anthony Yip had just visited him over the weekend. Will keep you folks posted.

Hi everyone,
Here is the picture that we took on Jul 29.
Dear Ah So
It was great to have a reunion with Paul Ng, Cyril Chan, Lo Pak, Wilson Yung and Yau Ki Ching in Toronto last Sunday night after some thirty years and to reminisce the good old SJC days. We would like everyone to seriously consider a 35th SJC anniversary (1970 Form 5) in Hong Kong next year around November/December time. If there is support, perhaps the HK classmates can organise it.
We had a nice dinner with Lai Cho Sam who is in Toronto for a meeting. I haven't seen him and the others for years ( some more like 30 years ! ). We talk about the possibility of having a class reunion next year. Thanks to Yau Ki Ching for arranging the dinner.
Included in the photo are from left to right:
front: Wilson Yung, Paul Ng, Cyril Chan
back: Joseph Lai (Cho Sam), Yau Ki Ching, Stephen Lo (Pak-Lun)
Tony Lam sent a bunch of photos.

And finally, this one

I am Wilson Yung from Form 6C. I came across your website while looking for SJC pals. I am so glad that people are still keeping in touch. Got a call from Yau Ki Ching saying that Lai Cho Sam will be visiting Toronto next weekend. We are hoping to arrange a get together. Haven't seen each other since high school days.
I am living in Richmond Hill just north of Toronto. I am working as an anesthesiologist in the local hospital. WaiLing and I have been married for 25 years and we have two boys ( Samuel is 20 and is a student in the Univ. of Toronto and Jonathan is 12 ) Like some other Josephians, I became a Christian and have not looked back since. I would really like to renew my contacts with all of you.
Jonas Leung is up in Vancouver this week. Here is a pic sent by Anthony Lam. Apparently, they and Marcus Leung met up last night.
(Joseph Lai Cho Sam and Raymond Tsang Shiu Wah were recently in HK, webmaster: JS)
Dear all
I would like to thank Lo Sing for organising the dinner on January 6 in HK. It was great to catch up with the following classmates and reminiscing about the good old days at SJC:
Henry Chan, Roger Fung, Stephen Hau, Huang Yu Hoi, Lam Kit Yan, Lo Sing, Pau Kwok Keung, Siu Yat Ming, Raymond Tsang and Raymond Wong
Please find attached two photos ( pic1 , pic2 ) taken on the night plus 2 SJC "old" photos ( pic3 , pic4 ) provided by Siu Yat Ming.
(Strangely I can't even recognize myself. Raymond just called and told me that I was indeed in those 2 old pictures. webmaster: JS)
Until next time, all the very best!

We missed these folks who has already made prior commitments and absent from our mini-gathering: Nash & fam were in the Southland visiting Mickie and San Diego. David Ching took his fam to ski at Tahoe. Arvola Chan was recovering from an injury.
Fred, Johnny & Nash, Thanks for the inputs. You have my vote on either Alcatraz or Angel Island, or both. I understand there is a short ferry ride too. Perfect! I've only seen these places from a distance... Did Wong Ying Kuen ever reply? One of my emails couldn't reach him on time.
Tony, were you able to touch base with Stephen Yuen and Joseph Yick in Vancouver? If not, perhaps Terry, Randy and/or Michael from thier class can help.
Augustine, Thanks for visiting the virtual forum and your response too. How many are joining you from Toronto? Li Yuk Tak, John Chan, Aloysius Ko, Cyril Chan, Paul Ng, John Liu?
From the Southland, we now have Alex Lee (Kwok Wing) & Arthur Ho (Bing Chung), possibly Stephen Tang (& his fam of 3 generations of Josephians) from '70 joining us. In the class of '69, we have Patrick Au (Ho Ming), Randolph Lee (Ching Heung), Francis Lo, Eric Chan (Chi Kay), possibly Terry Gock (Sai Wah), the Au brothers, (David & Robert), Edwin Wong (who is overseas now) and Michael Fan (Shek Fai). From '71, we have Nathan Dunn, Danny Lai and William Yu, possibly Patrick Chan and Ben Wu.
Terry, another SJC scholar, is free(r) from his public commitments and obligations this year, has kindly offered to help us in planning and organizing this event, though there is a chance he might not be able to join us due to prior commitments. He and Randy (who has always been) will be very helpful to get his classmates together given that Michael Ko, the '69 gatekeeper, has to travel quite a bit these days. Yes, we'll have our own caravan to go up north. ;-) Randy, Terry and I will be meeting either this week or next. Anyone in the Southland who like to pitch in are more than welcome. Just let me know.
Looks like we already have over 20 OB's signed up (~ same number of hotel rooms)! That's great! A rough (guess/e)stimates of head counts will bring us to 40-80 people assuming each alumnus has 2 to 4 in each of their parties.
Happy CNY & Kung Hay Fat Choy!

Dear ALL:
Thank you all for the dinner on 6/24. I really enjoyed seeing how well everyone is doing and renewing old friendships. Attached ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ) are the photos taken on that evening. I think the image files totalled about 5 MB. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are visiting or passing through San Francisco. Several of us, Johnny Lau, David Ching and others, are here in the Bay Area. My house can accomodate a family of four easily. I am 21 miles north of the Golden Gate bridge.

Christmas greetings and updates
Hi everybody,
Thanks for taking the time to come and had lunch with me on the 25th (thanks for lunch by the way). It was so nice to see all of you again especially those that I have not seen for 30 years! Attached is the picture that we took together. By copy of this e-mail to "Ah So", you should be able to find this picture at the website eventually as well.
Special thanks to Hi Mun for organizing this lunch gathering and the numerous e-mail/phone follow-up and also to "Ah Lung" for arranging the meeting venue.
I wish I had more time to spend with each one of you that afternoon to update each other since we last met; two hours is obviously not enough! We didn't even have a chance to extend our conversation beyond ourselves to our families, I don't even know your spouse's name or how many children in your family, except for "Ah Lung" who brought his family along. Just out of curiosity, do any one know if any of our old boys is a grandfather? I'll try to do that in my next visit and hopefully we can see each other more than once.
I do think every one looks well and hope we can see each other again soon. If any one of you is visiting Vancouver or even just stopping over (Vancouver) en-route to other cities in Canada or USA, please let me know by e-mail, fax or phone and I will make arrangements to suit your itinerary.
Sincerely,
Anthony Lam
Subject: Say Hello to your classmate, Alex Lee
Date: Fri, 28 Sep 2001
From: Jonas Leung "anjleung@pacbell.net"
I ran into Alexander Lee (L6A) at lunch. Alex is better known as Ah-Dai (as versus Marcus Leung Chiu Hung as Ah-Sai... ;-) ). He'll be visiting HK next week.
Henry: if your time allows for a gathering with Alex, please arrange it directly with him. Alex said he's in touch with John Tang.
Anthony: in deed, Ho Bing Chung is in the southland and Alex has the contact info.
Hi gang,
The following link which I learned of from another senior alumnus today might interest you, if you didn't know about it already.
- The "Annual Ball" which will be held on Saturday, Dec 8 at the Convention
Centre.
- It has links to other SJC homepages as well.
- I think I recognized John Tang & Roger Fung from your class as members of
the OBA committe.
best regards,

I went to Toronto and Vancouver with a delegation of 10 people from China at the end of February after their 3 weeks training course in Calgary. Did not have time to get together with anybody in Toronto but able to have dinner with Joseph Chiang and Tony Lam in Vancouver. Take care and say hi to your family.

Hi Class of 70',
A former classmate of '71 sent me the following re: Bro Thomas. Thought it might be of interest to you too.
regards,
-jonas.
Gentlemen,
Paul Pang passed to me an article from a Chinese Newspaper about Brother Thomas. I believe you would be interested to see it.
As some of you are living overseas, I wold give you some background about the story. Mrs Fanny Law, the AO in charge of Education wrote a letter to 22 top secondary schools in HK and expressed concern about their teaching methods, too traditional and conservative.
That led to strong opposition from these schools and she subsequently apologised. Of course both SJC and La Salle were included in these top 22 schools.
Personally I believe the 23rd school not included must be more annoying than the first 22. Have fun!
Paul Lo
